The Greenville Mississippi Kennel Club will be celebrating its American Kennel Club Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Cleveland on Saturday, September 24 at the Delta State University Pavilion on the DSU campus. The event will take place between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. The goal of this day, supported by the American Kennel Club, is to educate dog owners about the responsibilities of dog ownership and to help them enhance their relationships with their pets and to have a good time. This years event is co-sponsored by the Mid-Delta and Bolivar County Humane Societies.
Responsible Dog Ownership Day events are designed to be fun and educational for the whole family. Some of the events and presentations will include a dog themed coloring contest for elementary school students, dog tricks showcase, safety around dogs, responsible dog ownership, drug dog and search and rescue dog demonstrations, choosing the right dog for your family and how to keep your dog healthy. There will be an opportunity to interact with people with dog specialists such as trainers, groomers, therapy dogs, search and rescue and many others.
The coloring contest is open to any child in elementary school. Prizes will be awarded in two categories, up through second grade, and third through sixth grade.
The dog trick showcase will give anyone in attendance a chance to have their dog show off their best tricks.
This event is free and open to the public. Well behaved dogs that are not aggressive toward people or other dogs, that are on a six foot or shorter leash (no flexi leashes please), and are current on their vaccinations are welcome. The DSU Pavilion is located on Canal Ave. between Maple and Thomas streets.
Those participating are encouraged to bring a donation for the Cleveland-Bolivar Animal Shelter. Some needed items are: Pine Sol, Dawn dish detergent, paper towels and soft puppy food.
